Finance

Paul Hamlyn Foundation (PHF) and the JRD Tata Trust are our main sources of funds.

The hospital is also able to manage a part of its funds from the nominal fees we get from patients.

Some considerate friends too contribute varying amounts, which we use mainly for buying equipment and infrastructure requirements.  We greatly appreciate this support which encourages us to go ahead.  (Income & Expenditure statement)

Another survivor: One rainy winter Saturday news came that a pre-term baby had been born in one of our most inaccessible villages.  Sumathy, aged 22, an experienced nursing tribal Health Worker, made a post natal visit the next day with one of the Health coordinators.  She found 18 year old Palanniammal and her new baby struggling to cope.  The baby was very tiny, at 1.5 kg even smaller than would be expected for his 34 weeks gestation.  He was not feeding.  The Village Health Auxiliary had advised the family to come to the hospital but they were still considering what to do.  Sumathy could see a rapid decision must be made.  She made clothes and dressed the baby warmly and brought the whole family to the hospital in the jeep within an hour.  It took 12 hours to warm the baby up from his hypothermia, and at first he had to be tube fed until he was strong enough to suck. With antibiotic injections and regular feeding, as well as one to one nursing care, he made rapid progress.    Without Sumathy's visit,  he probably would not have survived the weekend.
