Peer to peer communication helps in opening up ares such as women's health issues. Health Auxilliaries talk to village woman on what to do about womens health problems

An important parameter to be monitored is the baby's weight. Inadequate progress in this area is a sure indication of something going wrong. Health Auxilliaries learn the basics of weight monitoring and help check the newborns' progress in this area.

Health Auxilliaries are the fist line of monitoring the wellbeing of the community and they need to be equipped with enough skills to recognise and act fast when something is amiss

Tribal Health Initiative recognises that communication is effective only when the discussions use materials the participants are comfortable with. Classes on nutrition use locally available items and the best ways to use them.

Classes are held in an informal atmosphere and attendee participation is always encouraged. It is also a forum for Health Auxilliaries to exchange experiences and learn from their peers.

Health Workers at Tribal Health Initiative form the core nursing team who look after all aspects of patient care at the hospital. They are selected from the local villages, and trained at the hospital.

Expectations on the Health Workers are very high and the trainees undergo a rigerous training routine with hands on training covering all aspects of patient care.

Infant mortality rate in and around Sittilingi has reduced by more than 50% since Tribal Hospital started functioning.

With one of their own kind helping with the stay in the hospital, patients from remote villages are more at ease here than at the big city hospitals.

Tribal Health Initiative continues to be a success story solely because of the dedication and the team effort of all involved.
