THI Hospital at Sittilingi

In September 1993 we started with a mud and thatch hut for outpatient consulting. Soon ACTION AID, a British agency helped us with funds

By November 1994 a tiled house was built, where Doctors and staff stay.

By late 1996, a 10 bed hospital with and operation theatre, Labour room, and Lab was completed.

A wing to train local tribal women to be health workers and nurses was built.

So far we have trained 20 tribal girls to be Health Workers (nurses) and 25 tribal women to be Health Auxilliaries.

Infant mortality in the area has reduced by 50%

In 2003 we carried out 281 surgeries as compared to 25 in 1997.

Hospital has newly completed a New extension to existing building, providing new facilities to patients.

I came to India believing that I could teach something to the health care workers of Sittilingi and have found myself truly humbled by the experience. I wish I could have given just a little to these people from whom I have learned so much.
