Training
and placing tribal women as Health Auxiliaries in their local
villages
Training
and employing tribal girls as Health Workers (nurses) in the Tribal
Hospital
What
we have done so far :
Training
a new batch of six nursing Health Workers (HWs) started in July
1997.
It
is a 1 1/2 years residential course.
We
started training a new batch of older women as Health Auxiliaries
(HA) too in July 2000 to increase the coverage of our field health
program from 18 to 21 villages (9500 population) and they come in
twice a month for 2-day training sessions. All HAs come once a month
for review and ongoing training.
In
2004, we started the training of the fifth batch of Health Workers.
While we had only 16 applicants for our first batch, we had more
than 200 applicants for the final 6 to be selected for the fifth
batch.
Health
Workers have had an opportunity to develop their clinical skills
and now play a much greater part in both outpatient treatment and
deliveries
