It is also possible to take a bus to Thumbal (there is a bus from Salem almost every hour via Thumbal), but buses from Thumbal to Sittilingi are less frequent - not the recommended choice for first-timers).

Sittilingi is also well connected to Morapur, a station on the main Chennai Salem line. However you might want to come via Salem, which is a better and shorter option, if your timings are ok. Trains from Chennai stopping at Morapur [from where you can get a local bus to Harur]

      Yercaud Express [Morapur arr.0430]
      Kovai Express [Morapur arr.0955]
      West Coast Express [Morapur arr.1530]

We recommend that you try to reach Salem before 9 AM on any day and take the first direct bus to Sittilingi (Salem - Thiruvannamalai bus via Thumbal/Sittilingi/Kottappatti).

It is difficult (hectic) to try and return on the same day - come prepared to spend atleast one night. We will be happy to arrange accommodation and food.

If you have questions feel free to write to us - we will be happy to help.
Sittilingi is best reached from  Chennai or  Bangalore in South India.

From Bangalore the best way is to take a bus to Dharmapuri and then bus to Harur (travel time 1.5 hours - frequent buses) or train to Salem.
Buses from Salem:

There are direct buses from Salem to Sittilingi at 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM (these are Salem - Thiruvannamalai buses, routed through Vazhappadi).

Friends traveling by car -Friends traveling from Bangalore by car - you can turn off at Krishnagiri and take the Pondichery highway till Uthangarai. Turn off here to a place called Hanumantheertham [about 10km] . just after you pass this village is a river and just after you cross the causeway, there is a turn to the left, towards Theerthamalai. From there proceed to Kotapatty and then Sittilingi.
For those traveling from Chennai by car, come to Tiruvannamalai and then take the road to Naripalli. Proceed straight to a village called Bairanaickenpatty. Here turn left and you will reach Kotapatty and then Sittilingi.
