For the last couple of months Dr. Kaveri Nambisan has been holding fort at THI as Dr. Regi and Dr. Lalitha take off on a well earned break to the Himalayas. Vijay Nambisan, Dr. Kaveri’s husband records some of his experiences in the latest issue of Outlook magazine in Sittilingi Diary.

Our newsletter for the year 2009 – 2010 is ready and has been mailed to all the Friends of Sittilingi. Some of the highlights of the year have been the starting of a weekly OP clinic at Vellimalai , the initiation of a predominantly local staff led training programme for new Health Auxiliaries from remote villages in the Kalrayan hills, the inauguration of a health scheme for elderly people in our field area and lots of progress on the organic farming and craft initiatives.

Porgai products at Bangalore exhibition

Handcrafted items produced by Porgai, our Lambadi womens’ embroidery collective are on sale at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad, Kumara Krupa Road, Bangalore from October 5th to 14th at the Sampoorna Handicrafts Bazaar. Support the revival of traditional Lambadi embroidery by visiting the exhibition and buying our products.

HIV/AIDS award for THI

On the occasion of World AIDS Day the Tamil Nadu Society for AIDS Control (TNSACS) recognised THI’s HIV/AIDS programme with an Award for Exceptional Work. Credit must be given to Mathaiyan, our TB/HIV Health Worker who manages most of the programme. He is seen in the photo with the award.
