Sittilingi is best reached from Chennai or Bangalore in South India. The journey from either of these two cities will take about 4-8 hours depending on your mode of travel. It is difficult to try and return on the same day. Come prepared to spend at least one night. We will be happy to arrange accommodation and food.

Orientation

Sittilingi is roughly equidistant (about 80 kms) from Thiruvannamalai to its North East, Dharmapuri to its West, and Salem to its South West.  The nearest Village is Kotapatti to its North.

The nearest railway stations are:

  • Morappur [55 kms]– Trains to Chennai, Coimbatore and Mangalore stop here.
  • Vazhapady [45 kms] — Train to Chennai Egmore and Vriddhachalam Junction stop here. [Trains to Bangalore and Pondicherry to be introduced soon]

Getting here from Chennai

By car:

The route is Thindivanam, Thiruvannamalai, Thandrampet, Thanipady, Naripalli, Kottapatty. [280 kms]

By bus:

Take a bus to Thiruvannamalai [about 4 hrs from Koyambedu]. From Thiruvannamalai take the bus to Salem via Kotapatti [this is important as the usual Salem buses take another route] at 10.15 am. or the 3.15 pm bus to Vazhapady again via Kotapatti. The buses take about 3 hours to reach Sittilingi and will drop you outside the THI campus gate.

By train:

Take Kovai Express upto Morappur. From there take one of the frequent buses to Harur and change to the bus to AK Thanda at 10.30 am [this will reach Sittilingi at 12.15 pm]. If you miss this bus there is a bus to Kotapatti at 11 am. You will reach Kotapatti at 12.15pm and there is a connecting bus at 1 pm to Sittilingi.

The new overnight train from Chennai Egmore is the other option. Get off at Vazhapady and there is a bus to Thiruvannamalai via Thumbal and Sittilingi at 5.45 am. This will reach Sittilingi at 7.15 am.

Getting here from Bangalore (Bengaluru)

By car:

The route is Hosur, Krishnagiri, Uthangarai, Hanumantheertham, Theerthamalai, Kotapatti. [220 Kms]

By bus:

To reach Harur, take bus to Krishnagiri  and change. Alternatively, take any bus going to Thirvannamalai or Pondicherry and get off at Uthangarai and change a bus to Harur.

At Harur, you will get buses to AK Thanda, which goes via Sittilingi, at 5.15 am,7.30 am, 10.30 am, 1.15 pm, 2.45 pm and 7.15 pm. In between there are buses to Kotapatti which is 10 kms from Sittilingi.

Recently a direct bus from Krishnagiri has been introduced. This leaves Krishnagiri at 10.30 am. It is a bus going to a place called “Kombai” via Harur, Kotapatti and Sittilingi

By train:

A convenient connection is to take the morning Ernakulam train from Bangalore upto Dharmapuri. It reaches at 8.30 am there. At 9.15 am there is a direct bus to Kotapatti which will reach at 12.15 at Kotapatti. There is a bus to Sittilingi at 1 pm from there.
